Everyone Piano - Free virtual piano
There are all sorts of piano substitutes out there, but most of them still require at least a piano keyboard to work properly. If this is simply not an option for you, the next best thing you can go for is Everyone Piano. It emulates piano sounds to a fine degree, but the best part is that it lets you play with a PC keyboard. You don't need special hardware or additional drivers to make it work, so you can start having fun with it and practice your favorite tunes in no time.
Everyone Piano is offered as a freeware application, and it works on all modern Windows platforms. It has a small setup file, and it doesn't take long to go through the installation process. The software doesn't require any special tools or services, and you won't notice any impact on your machine's performance.
Although you won't feel like you're using a real piano, the software does everything possible to offer a pleasant experience. Each key on your keyboard corresponds to a piano key, which you can see on the application's compact user interface, along with a PC keyboard. Pressing a key will highlight its correspondents on both the PC and piano keyboards. What's more, the application highlights the left and right half of the keyboard with different colors, to help you keep your hands in a correct position on the keyboard.
The software lets you make various settings, on the same user interface, directly beneath the keyboards. You only need to click a few buttons to change the key, dynamics and other settings. Additional options are located on separate windows, which you can bring up through the top menus.
Another feature worth mentioning is the possibility of recording and playing back piano tunes. The application works with special music file formats, so you can't load any audio file you just happen to have around. On the other hand, it also provides a link to an online database, from which you can download numerous songs. Furthermore, when you load and play these files, the application will highlight each note and key as they're played, to help you learn that new song.
